HARRISBURG – In response to UPMC's announcement of laying off 1,000 personnel, Rep. Tim O’Neal assured the public that this decision would not affect the commitment to Washington Health System (WHS). O’Neal stated, "While I have great empathy for the UPMC staff who will be laid off, I have spoken to UPMC leaders, and its commitment to Washington Health System (WHS) will not change as a result of this announcement."

Moreover, O’Neal highlighted UPMC's commitment to retaining all WHS staff for at least 10 years if the merger is approved. He emphasized the importance of the merger by stating, "Without this merger, we risk losing local access to health care." O’Neal called upon Governor Josh Shapiro to intervene, saying, "I again urge Gov. Josh Shapiro to encourage the attorney general to approve the plan."

The 48th Legislative District in Washington County, represented by O’Neal, encompasses various townships and boroughs within the region. O’Neal's dedication to safeguarding local healthcare access and ensuring job security for WHS staff remains paramount amidst UPMC's recent announcement.
