DETAILS COMING UP. SUNNY SHINE. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. THANK YOU. IN HARRISBURG TODAY, THE UPMC HILLMAN CENTER HOSTED ITS ANNUAL WOMEN’S CANCER SURVIVORSHIP CONFERENCE. NOW, THIS FREE ONE DAY RETREAT ALLOWS ATTENDEES TO LEARN HOW TO CARE FOR THEIR BODY THROUGH INTERACTIVE SESSIONS WITH EXPERTS ON NUTRITION, EXERCISE AND MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL HEALTH. PARTICIPANTS ALSO PRACTICE DIFFERENT KINDS OF EXERCISE, MIND BODY THERAPIES, AND CREATIVE SESSIONS WITH ART AND SOUND THERAPY FOR SURVIVORS. THIS CONFERENCE ALLOWS FOR THEM TO FOCUS ON LIVING WELL AFTER A CANCER DIAGNOSIS. SEEING THE JOY ON WOMEN’S FACES, THE CONNECTIONS THAT THEY MAKE, THE INFORMATION THAT THEY LEARN AND GET TO TAKE HOME AND APPLY TO THEIR TO THEIR DAILY LIVES. IT’S WONDERFUL TO SAY, HEY, YOU’RE NOT ALONE. YOU NEVER REALLY WERE ALONE, BUT IT’S ALSO EMPOWERING TO BE WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE HERE AND HAVE, YOU KNOW, NOT LIVED THE SAME, UM, JOURNEY, BUT SOMETHING SIMILAR. Women empowering women at the 'Cancer Survivorship Conference' in Harrisburg
In Harrisburg, the UPMC Hillman Center hosted its annual Women’s Cancer Survivorship Conference on Saturday.The free one-day retreat allowed attendees to learn how to care for their bodies through interactive sessions with experts on nutrition, exercise and mental and spiritual health.Participants also practiced different types of exercise, mind-body therapies and creative sessions with art and sound therapy.For survivors, the conference allowed for them to focus on living well after a cancer diagnosis.“Seeing the joy on women's faces, the connections that they make, the information that they learn and get to take home and apply to their daily lives,” said UPMC Hillman Breast Cancer Survivorship Program coordinator Beth Rudge.Breast cancer survivor Cathy Buss shared her sentiment.“It is wonderful to say hey, you're not alone; you never really were alone, but it's also empowering to be with other people who were here and have not lived the same journey by something similar,” Buss said. The conference also provided experts to help give insight on sexual health after cancer and managing the impacts of menopause.
